This GameMakes My Day!

So after looking more into the two game engines I discovered, I found out that GameMaker is easy to use, and is exactly what I want to do as far as my demo goes!

I'm going home this weekend and should be back Monday with GameMaker under my belt. Getting familiar with the engine will begin as soon as it is fully acquired, for only $20.00.

Game Engines: the Search and Scope

So in my quest to make a proof of content for a role-playing game, I have to find a game engine to run everything on.

But the biggest issue is that many game engines for making a 2D sprite-like style from an overhead perspective, much like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, don't run on Macs but PCs. Since I don't have a PC, this severely limits my options.

However I did find two engines that are able to be downloaded: Open RPG Maker and GameMaker. While Open RPG Maker opened right up, I do not know how to begin or navigate the engine just yet, more testing being needed.

GameMaker on the other hand has a 10 minute demo, and has a full version for $20.00 for the Mac as well. Once I try the demo I will most likely buy the full version, as another engine on hand is better than nothing.

Maybe I can find some tutorials online to get a better understanding of the engines, but I have high hopes for them so far.
